Sam Penny Interviewed on Syndicated Michael Dresser Show about Memphis 7.9

Novel telling what happens when a magnitude 7.9 earthquake strikes on the New Madrid Fault is based on analysis of government data

Urbana, Illinois - Sam Penny, author and lecturer, announced today that his interview with syndicated talk show host Michael Dresser was heard across the country Tuesday evening at 8 pm Central Daylight Time.

The lively half-hour-long discussion between Michael and Sam focused on what are the real risks to the central United States of a catastrophic earthquake.

Penny said, "This was a spontaneous event. Michael called me after 3 pm in response to my announcement running in the Radio/TV Interview Report that I was available for interviews. I was quite surprised when he said he wanted to do the interview less than five hours later."

Michael Dresser, born in Chicago Illinois, was raised in the Los Angles area of Southern California. He came to Fairbanks, Alaska in January 1983 for a short visit, fell in love with the Interior and never left. A pioneer in the development of talk radio in Fairbanks, Michael began his journey in radio on a Saturday night at 10:00, reading from a script. He threw away the script after the first half hour and the rest is history.

Dresser's show has evolved over the years into an open educational and informational forum featuring daily guests from all over the country. Dresser says, "The purpose of the show is to present you with timely and newsworthy subjects or issues for discussion." Known for being able to discover and get to the heart of an issue, the longevity of his show attests to his knowledge and ability, and the shows popularity. Michael's unique view of the world and his knowledge, experience, and interests present many opportunities to appear as a guest on radio shows across the entire country, on a host of different topics.

Penny self-published his first novel, Memphis 7.9, in 2003. His story focuses on how some citizens of Memphis have prepared for a major earthquake on the New Madrid Fault Zone, just 45 miles west, and what happens to the Mississippi River valley during the first six hours immediately following a great earthquake of magnitude 7.9. A series of three major earthquakes of even greater magnitude tore apart the same region in 1811 and 1812.

Penny says, "My intent was to use the best scientific and engineering analysis available to determine exactly what the effects of a great earthquake will be, and then tell a first-class story that illustrates those effects while entertaining my reading audience. I call the result Reality Fiction."

Memphis 7.9 is Book 1 of a four-part project, The 7.9 Scenario, which tells of effects on the central United States cities, lands, and rivers and attempts of the United States to recover from the worst disaster that ever struck this land. More information about his project is found on the Internet at www.the79scenario.com. His next book, Broken River, is scheduled for publication in late summer.
