Friday morning I moved into high gear. I received an email from booksurge.com explaining that after all was said and done, they did not have the files I had sent for printing the book. I was floored.
Since it was already mid-afternoon back in South Carolina I informed them I would have the files on their server by the beginning of their workweek on Monday. There were a number of necessary edits I had already found, and I figured I might as well get them in. It might even save me an extra printing.
However, I could not devote all my time to editing. It was necessary that I sign some checks for Jojoba Hills and go to the bank for an update on the signature cards. We had changed banks while I was away and the change was needed. I also made an appointment for a blood test at Dr. Wood's office.
By Sunday, August 3, I had completed the editing of Memphis 7.9 and uploaded the files to the booksurge.com server. Finally, I could start to relax again and work on things like our music files.
Monday morning we did our exercise walk at the clubhouse and then I took Alice in to her doctor's appointment. We did our shopping and things settled back into normal. My book seemed to be making the appropriate progress now that there were files there for them to do something with. I did some jamming with the other members and I made progress on using the dobro.
On Wednesday and Thursday Alice and I had the AED duty. I helped Chuck Dillow with the letter of intent to Coachcom and did some work on the webpage.
Alice had a barium enima on Friday. I took my watch in for service (once every five years is enough) and we started making reservations for our next planned trip.
Saturday there was a jam session, and then a barbeque on Sunday. I did some writing on Broken River and we washed the clothes. Then on Monday I brought up the booksurge webpage and found my book was print-ready. Finally, it was available, or so I thought.
I worked on the plans for the new workcamper sites and Monday afternoon we had an executive meeting. Wednesday Alice met with the nose specialist about her concerns. We had AED for a couple of days Thursday and Friday, and we brought the little trailer up for packing for our next trip.
We finally decided to move laptops around. The one Alice had been using was failing more often on the matter of starting up, so I moved to the new Compaq and Alice took over my Toshiba 2775 laptop. We went through the difficulty with the blaster worm and killed that issue. I picked up my watch from service and it once again told the correct time.
On Saturday we finished up miscellaneous details
and then headed off in the afternoon to Oceanside with the little
trailer.

After a short trip of 49 miles over to the coast we pulled into the Paradise by the Bay RV Park in Oceanside. The spot they had picked for us was an easy back-in and I quickly set things up. After installing the TV I did some work Saturdya night on Dad's Story.
On Sunday we just took it easy and I did some more work on Dad's Story. We walked down towards the beach and around the town. It is a bit crowded but you just learn to ignore all the bother around you.
Monday morning we drove over to Camping World
in San Marcos and then shopped at boat shops in the harbor to
find some fiberglass cleaner and polish.

It was time to get some more meds from Mexico, so we planned a trip over to Pio Pico so we could go to Tecate. The trip of 65 miles was uneventful. I prepared my submission for the writer's conference and did other housekeeping chores.
On Thursday we drove down to Tecate but found
that the prices there were too high. So Friday we took off for
Algodonas, 175 miles away. There we were able to procure the medications
we needed at a much more reasonable price. That evening I worked
on Dad's Story.

Saturday morning we hooked up once more and headed the 96 miles back home. We got there in time to wash clothes and I had a chance to join the jam session.
Sunday we took over the AED and I started working on PR plans for Memphis 7.9. I also registered for the Oxnard writer's conference.
Monday morning I called Stephanie about what appeared to be a delay in my book. I had not received anything from them. Sure enough, they seemed to be waiting for me to approve the author copy when they had not even mailed the damned thing to me. I told her that I approved whatever they had in hand and to ship it immediately. I also found out that she had not bothered to open the email I had sent to her two weeks before. When she did she was upset that my proposed email referenced her in the manner I did. I agreed to change it. By this time I had a pretty sour taste in my mouth about dealing with booksurge.com. In any case, the books seemed to finally be moving.
I returned the little trailer to storage, and without thinking I tried to do a U-turn in the upper parking lot. Everything went well until the back end of the trailer swung out and clipped the Daughtery's rig. It did minor damage to their trailer, but it caused $2,500 damage to the window in my rig. Damn!
I sent off the first chapter of Broken River for review at the SCWC and started checking around for opportunities to sell books. On Wednesday we had our writer's group and jam session and we made reservations for the Lavielles to visit up in September.
Thursday I took the little rig into Temecula Valley RV and made arrangements for them to fix it. Friday I made arrangements to get the other rig fixed and we had a Board meeting.
The remainder of the month was a series of small meetings about a variety of things. Life just seemed to be hectic.
